Royalty Leadership and Loyalty

First, let me be completely up front about the fact that this my daughter, Phoebe. And, yes we’re both wearing wedding dresses. Well, dresses we would wear to weddings. After all, we are in the Gold Coast Room at the Drake and this is the eve of the Royal Wedding. Now that you have this back story, here’s one about SMC Chicago and SOBCon . . . add yours in the comments . . .

Kicking off SOBCon every year is the Social Media Club Chicago pre-party – well at least for the past three years. Disclosure: I am on SMC Chicago’s board along with Jeff Willinger, Tim McDonald, Amy Ravit Korin, Jeannie Walters, Alex Levine and Jessica Murray.

This year the party was at The Drake Hotel, a lovely historic grand dame of a place that houses a sparkling jewel, The Gold Coast Room. Thanks goes out to Tom Martin for being our social media liaison.

Appreciation also extends to Citrix Go to Training, GMC Driving the Midwest and Eventbrite for their sponsorships.

Room Fills Up with Leaders

As I watched a crowd of almost 300 gather and then stepped up to the podium to welcome them, I didn’t think about leadership. I thought about leaders and how everyone in the room could lead someone to do something significant and meaningful.

Thanks to Lisa Petrilli and Steve Woodruff who proposed hosting a live #leadershipchat on twitter at the event. Although we couldn’t get the proper technology connections in place we needed to make it happen, we did hear from some exciting speakers.

Thanks so much to these speakers for sharing a synopsis of their SOBCon presentation:

Liz Strauss – SOBCon co-founder and our co-event planner

Terry Starbucker – SOBCon co-founder and our co-event planner

Chris Brogan

Carol Roth

Here’s Tim Sanders, author of “Today We Are Rich” . . . talking about how you can make a difference with one post and one update at a time.

And . . . a huge thanks to Ramon DeLeon #RamonWow for jumping up on stage to deliver the grand finale with only a moment’s notice.

Although this party the night before SOBCon was exciting, I left early and woke up at bright and early at 5:00am on Friday. How exciting to watch the royal wedding. What a magnificent start to the day!

Now tell us . . . what’s your take on royalty, leadership or loyalty?
