Somehow I caught one of Darren Rowse’s tweets inviting BlogWorld Expo attendees to join him on a photowalk in Las Vegas. Darren writes two popular blogs: Problogger and Digital Photography School.
In July, I missed the BlogHer photowalk. And, after I saw their pictures, I knew I had to make this one a priority.
Here’s a picture I took of Darren addressing our group of 70 plus photographers. Kris Krug from Static Photography was our leader.
I felt major-ly under-equipped next to most of the other photographers with my Canon S5.
Yet, I was taken with how that didn’t much matter. Everyone was one of us. The folks with the most advanced equipment were happy to tell me why they selected their lenses. Looking through them, I didn’t need to hear any explanation, the clarity spoke on its own.
Yesterday, Darren sent an email telling us how to tag our photos on flickr: dpvegas. So, today when I was uploading my meager lot of 18 images, I saved a look at the most interesting dpvegas photowalk images for last.
Why? A few of the photographers actually flew in just for this event. I knew their work would be outstanding – and it is. While my work on this subject is mostly mainstream, I’m not comparing my work to theirs.
I’m thinking about the magic in the moment of being accepted as part of this group of photographers, all of us madly snapping away to Elton John’s “Your Song” at dusk in front of the Bellagio fountains.
I thought maybe you might want to set up a photowalk to share your group’s images on flickr.com – and to capture the magic of making images together. Follow these ten tips for a great photo walk from Trevor Carpenter from Photowalking.org. Shawn Duffy offers tips for first-time photowalkers. And, if you’d like to check out my dpsvegas photowalk images, you’ll find them here.

Barbara, the photowalk sounds like it might offer new ways also to describe your business, in addition to doing it at a convention. Overall, it sounds like a great idea.

Great idea, Robyn! I could see how a photowalk could work really well for a business, a shopping district or a destination site, too. Thanks for your comment.
