Have you ever read a book that completely changed your life? It’s hard to estimate the effect David Meerman Scott’s work has had on my work. In 2007, David mentioned my fledgling blog wiredPRworks in his book, “The New Rules of Marketing and PR.”
In a stroke of marketing brilliance, David included over 160 bloggers/contributors in the first edition. And, he even added links to their sites.
When I found David’s work and read his first book, I knew I’d found the roadmap to the future of marketing and PR. Thanks to David for writing the book, including me in the first one – such an honor!, and taking the time to talk about the new new rules of marketing and PR on Growing Social Now.
Released in 2007, The New Rules of Marketing and PR landed six months on the BusinessWeek bestseller list.
Over the various editions, New Rules has sold more than 425,000 copies in English and is available in 29 languages from Albanian to Vietnamese. In the book, David provides a step-by-step plan for leveraging the power of technology to get your message seen and heard by the right people at the right time. Each edition covers the modern approaches for highly effective public relations, marketing, and customer communications—all at a fraction of the cost of traditional advertising.
Fifteen years ago, David’s ideas seemed radical, creative, and wonderful. In 2022, David is back with the eighth edition, which extends the new rules to reach the top trends in marketing and PR including AI, podcasting, and social audio. Thanks to David for leading the way to innovation in marketing, PR, and communications. Listen in to get updated on what you need to know about the new rules of marketing and PR – right now!

About David Meerman Scott, author of the “The New Rules of Marketing and PR”
David Meerman Scott spotted the real-time marketing revolution in its infancy and wrote five books about it including The New Rules of Marketing and PR, now in an 8th edition.
Now David says the pendulum has swung too far in the direction of superficial online communications. Tech-weary and bot-wary people are hungry for true human connection. Organizations have learned to win by developing what David calls a “Fanocracy” – (the subject of his Wall Street Journal bestseller) – tapping into the mindset that relationships with customers are more important than the products they sell to them.
He is a massive live music fan, having been to 804 live shows since he was 15 years old, is passionate about the Apollo lunar program, and he loves to surf but isn’t very good at it.
