Technorati Media 2013 Digital Influence Reports on Electronics

Technorati Media Infographic

Big news for CES: bloggers and reviews push the needle on electronics buys.

A new report breaks down influence and shows that 31% of people surveyed say blogs are most likely to influence a purchase.

Technorati Media’s full 2013 digital influence report also shows that tablets will be the biggest tech craze in 2013.

What the Technorati Digital Influence Report Means to Marketers

Shani Higgins, Technorati Media CEO, says ”Consumers are looking for recommendations from their trusted go-to sources and blogs continue to be a driving force in influencing purchasing decisions especially when it comes to electronics and gadgets. The smartest marketing strategy includes advertising and working with influencers so the moment a consumer’s engaged with a review or editorial feature they have an opportunity to take the next step and make a purchase.”

Even if you’re not in the electronics industry, you and your customers use electronics every day to do business, stay in touch and share updates. I like this survey format. How easy would it be for you to replace “electronics” with the name of your product?

Social Media 2012 Year End Review

As we wrap up 2012, here’s a look back at social media’s 2012 milestones. Which platform gets your 2012 MVP award: YouTube, Pinterest, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, Google+, tumblr, MySpace, or _________?

Facebook 2012 Year in Review

Now the largest social network in the world with 1 billion users, Facebook went public earlier this year. Instagram is now a Facebook property. In another union, Mark married his sweetheart. And his sister, Randi Zuckerberg spoke in Chicago.

I like Facebook’s social media 2012 year in review approach, called Facebook Stories.

“We took the pulse of the global community on Facebook in 2012 to assemble a series of trend lists, chronicling the top events, the most popular public figures, the most listened to songs on Facebook and more. These lists are available on Facebook Stories at FacebookStories.com/2012.”

Facebook invites members to share their stories and gives everyone the option to share their top 20 2012 stories in a photo collage. Feel free to share your 2012 story with us on Facebook.

Facebook Stories covers the top trends for a variety of topics. A good insight to popular culture and social conversations, the top TV show list caught me off guard. Do you watch Duck Dynasty or Honey Boo Boo?

Does the 2012 technology list look familiar?

  1. Instagram
  2. Timeline
  3. Pinterest
  4. Draw Something
  5. iPhone 5
  6. Kindle Fire
  7. SOPA
  8. News Feed
  9. Siri
  10. SongPop

Any surprises on this list for you?

LinkedIn 2012 Year in Review

During an interview this week with WDCB about 2012′s top social media stories, news director Gary Zidek asked me which social network I would pick as 2012′s biggest winner.

I’d have to say LinkedIn. For many reasons, LinkedIn outperformed all other platforms with a non-stop series of innovations including activating a new homepage design, adding the ability to click to make endorsements for skills, integrating the iPad calendar widget, launching a new company page interface, tuning up the profile design, and adding a thought leadership publishing center with posts by top influencers.

Twitter 2012 Year in Review

Twitter’s blog post and video about 2012 tweets convey the emotional year we’ve had. Late in 2012, Twitter and Instragram broke up. Almost immediately afterwards, Twitter added the ability to tweet photos with filters. Do you use Twitter, Instagram or another app to post photos from your mobile phone?

“Every day, we’re amazed and humbled by the many ways in which people use Twitter, which range from simply retweeting to igniting conversations with hashtags (even around lesser-known topics) to sharing spectacular and far-flung views. In 2012, everyone on Twitter brought us closer to moments and places that used to be far away or inaccessible: A Tweet from the bottom of the ocean. Tweets from Mars. An extraordinary view from space of Superstorm Sandy. A quiet backstage moment with a presidential candidate. All of these and millions of other such moments were ours to experience directly wherever we were, in the midst of work or play or travel.”

Google+ 2012 Year in Review

To mark 2012 progress, Google+ published an infographic called “This is Just the Beginning.”

When Gary asked me about the platform with the most promise in 2013, I picked Google+ for SEO, live hangouts and the new community feature. How about you – what platform do you think has the most promise in 2013?

YouTube 2012 Review

With over 1 billion views, 2012 will be remembered as the year of Gangnam Style.

About the National Kitchen and Bath Association

Source: NKBA.org

The NKBA created Kitchen & Bath Month in 1982. With children back in school and families not yet overwhelmed by the flurry of activity around the holidays, October is the most popular time of year for homeowners to remodel their kitchens and baths. Now is the perfect time to contact an NKBA member and get started on your kitchen or bath project.

For consumers looking to update their homes, the NKBA offers kitchen and bath planners to support remodeling projects. The planners enlist the expertise of NKBA professionals and include the following features:

  • A step-by-step guide of the remodel from start to finish,
  • Guidelines of details and components to consider while planning
  • Comprehensive design options to choose your personal style
  • Tips for setting a budget range, including advice on ways to save
  • Assistance on finding the right professional for your remodel
  • A checklist of considerations and tips to finalize your choices

This is also the time of year when the NKBA asks member companies to give back to their communities through a partnership with The Storehouse of World Vision. Since 2001, NKBA members have donated nearly $50 million in products to this humanitarian organization.

Thanks to Terry Kenney, who contacted me about speaking and is organizing the program with Maria Rosenwald. Terry is on the Drury Design team, one of our marketing, PR and social media clients since 2002. Here’s Terry talking about a recent kitchen design project for a client in Geneva, Illinois.

15 Ways to Share the Summer of 2012 So it Lasts

It’s August already. Summer is slipping away.

But don’t let this supposedly slow time of year fool you.

It may seem like 80% of the world is out of the office, but the truth is that it’s business as usual for reporters, Facebook friends, twitter followers and LinkedIn connections.

So why not have some fun sharing your last bits of the dog days of summer?

15 Ways to Share the Summer of 2012

1. Ice cream

What are you eating or wish you were? You can share a picture or partner with a local ice cream shop and send out coupons for free scoops to your sweetest customers.

2. Baseball

Join your team’s community conversation online so the team, and other fans, will get to know you.

3. Sunglasses

Show us the shades you’re wearing in your profile pictures.

4. Grilling

Have a favorite recipe? Share it on your blog and ask others to contribute theirs to a summer recipe collection you can offer as a free download.

5. Beverages

When I tweeted about a matcha drink, a tea company sent a recommendation. Watch the cheers come in as you toast on twitter.

6. Back to school

How can you educate your customers in an ebook?

7. Vacation

Is your town a tourist destination? Offer travel planning trips. Or, if you just got back from a marvelous vacation, post your itinerary on a travel social network.

8. Golf

Do your customers like to golf? Help them out with links to tips or a review of your favorite course in your newsletter.

9. Gardens

Whether you’re growing roses or radishes, snap a few quick pictures and upload them via instagram.

10. Events

Going to a concert? Show your followers what they were missing with a YouTube clip.

11. Visitors

Who stopped by? Take a series of photos for a summer album on Google+.

12. Collections

Seashells, rocks or refrigerator magnets? Pin your collection, and add to it, on Pinterest.

13. Movies

Takeaway the message and post it as a review on your blog

14. FUN!!!!

Was it the roller coaster, the concert in the park or your family reunion that stands out as a highlight of the summer of 2012? Publish a vacation scropbook on flickr.

15. Fall previews

Let the media know about events coming up in September in a news release that goes out, in you guessed it, August.

When you share your summer of 2012 moments, you’ll have fun and more importantly, your followers, fans and connections will get to know more about who you are and what you do.

Your turn . . . what will you remember most about the summer of 2012? How will you or did you share your highlights?
