Barbara,

These tips are great! I am an Electronic Media Specialist for a private K-12 school in Virginia Beach. May I use your tips as a guide for a parent social media program I'll be having this school year?

Barb--

I'll add my voice to the chorus of Heidis commenting. :-) First, congrats on your position as spokesperson for SMC Chicago!

Second, this is all very good advice. I think that advice on being smart and deliberate about online presence is far more valuable than another debate over freedom of speech in schools. This is the reality of the world our kids are growing up in; better that they make conscious decisions now.

This is a great article on the challenges, both legal and practical, of monitoring children's online activity in a free speech society. No doubt this is an evolving issue. Thanks for being in the vanguard of social media!
