In answer to that question...I find in social media that the emphasis on the hook has to be stressed because you never know at what point your audience will enter into your stream.

Richard Reeve's last blog post..Square Market around a Goldfish Pond

Richard, storytelling is a craft. Telling stories across different media is challenging. Do you think every media has its own crafting approach?

RE: Dickens . . . my fourteen year old told me he wanted to read "A Christmas Carol" to me during the holidays. Hearing your child read a story out loud is such a gift. This one is a learning experience for both of us - in vocabulary, history and so many other offshoot discussions. Thanks for mentioning Dickens.

I love the conversation! I have a full time vanity alert on google and it brings me to the coolest places. Ya'll have created quite a cool place here. I'm clicking links every few lines. You might want to link up to the SECOND EDITION of the Story Factor at Amazon since it has an extra chapter with the six stories for one organizations

And while I think there are six kinds of stories we need to tell - I don't think there are ONLY six stories. There could be six million kinds of stories or only one. I think it's subjective. I also think it's important to hold all definitions, theories, methods very loosely when it comes to stories. I call my selection of six stories:
Who I am Stories
Why I'm here Stories
Values in Action Stories
Teaching Stories
Vision Stories and
"I know what you are thinking" Stories

Which is a little different than described in terms of the last one. The last one is to name, validate and overcome a predictable objection before the listener has a chance to stick a stake in the ground over it.

Most of all I want to say I like your thinking style - it kick starts my brain.

Great tips embedded throughout this post on crafting our talking points through storytelling. What I think is important to remember is that storytelling is a craft that can be learned and improved upon. While we are not all as gifted as Dickens, we all can learn to use these guides to intrigue and interest folks.
